6 Karan Johar Film Stereotypes In Every Family
6 Karan Johar Film Stereotypes In Every Family

From the nerd of the family to the loving/loud/emotional mother

B-Town’s ‘movie mafia’ Karan Johar is brings in his 46th birthday this Friday, on May 25. Having completed two decades since his directorial debut with ‘Kuch Kuch hota Hai,’ he has achieved great milestones in his career.

One thing though that is clear from his movies is that KJo has a deep understanding of Indian families, since all his movies perfectly describe each character in a real-life family.

From the nerd of the family to the loving/loud/emotional mother, Dharma movies have presented each character with uncanny resemblance to real life.

Here are six ridiculously typical characters from a KJo movie that you’ll find in your own family:

A happy go-lucky Grandmother: Karan Johar has increased our hopes of having the most chilled grand mom ever; preferably the nani and dadi of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, who just wants to spoil the kids with extra pocket money and unhealthy snacks.

Tomboy Anjali or the nerd Naina: Every family has that sibling or a distant cousin who dresses up in loose shirts, pants and a cap, only to have an absolute transformation post puberty. She suddenly shocks distant relatives and long-lost friends by transforming into this absolute diva with long hair, make-up and elegant sarees.

Ever so stylish Poo or Shanaya: The ‘it’ girl is the most popular/talked-about princess of every family. From Gucci to Valentino, she’s the one who coerces the parents to get everything that she desires.

The no nonsense father: Whether it is Yashvardhan Raichand or Chaudhry Baldev Singh, Dharma never fails to represent the scary strict dad/uncle from the family whose decisions are always final. But at the end their heart melts and they succumb to their children’s wishes.

The mischief-making playboy: Bunny from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani or Rohan from Student of the year, Karan Johar never forgets the flirt of the family, who is busy trying to hook up with hot foreigners at weddings and parties.

The overdramatic house help: What’s a family without an enthusiastic, protective help, who will make a big issue out of nothing and who’ll hide all your secrets from the elders of the family just like our favorite Kanta Ben from Kal Ho Na Ho.

Let us know what you think about these similarities with the characters of Karan’s movies and your families in the comments section.
