Called ‘Jeanne du Barry’ the movie is scheduled for a July 2023 release
After his highly-publicised and tumultuous legal battle with Amber Heard, it looks like Johnny Depp has landed on his feet again. The 59-year-old actor was recently roped in for the part of Louis XV for a movie called, Jeanne du Barry. The former Pirates of the Caribbean star was spotted travelling to France ahead of filming.
This is the first project Depp will be a part of since his legal troubles escalated a couple of years ago. The actor was famously fired from the Pirates of the Caribbean and the Fantastic Beasts franchise after damning evidence came out against him. But all came down to a boiling point when his defamation case against Heard went to trial.
The trial, which was broadcasted on TV, saw both Heard and Depp being guilty of abuse and violence against each other. However, during the trial, the public opinion swung heavily in favour of Depp. Heard faced the major brunt of the trial, right from being vilified on social media to it impacting her career. For instance, it was recently reported that her role in the upcoming Aquaman 2 has been heavily cut down to a mere few minutes.
Coming back to the movie, while plot details aren’t out yet, pre-production has already begun with a scheduled release date of July 2023. Before this, Depp’s last major role was in 2020’s Minamata, where he played the role of photographer, W. Eugene Smith, who travels to the coastal city of Japan to investigate the rising cases of mercury poisoning.
While Depp may have found himself back on the set again, he’s not completely out of the woods yet. Amber Heard’s legal team confirmed that they are thinking about appealing the jury’s decision. Additionally, Depp also has to face an upcoming assault case against a crew member, where he’ll be defended by his lawyer, Camille Vasquez.
