The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ Is The Most Streamed Song In Spotify’s History. Here Are The Others

Just wow…

It’s official: The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights (released in 2019) is currently at the top of Spotify’s charts. The song has reportedly been streamed over 3.335 billion times — surpassing all numbers in the App’s history so far!

Prior to this, Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You was in the first position, as the most streamed song on Spotify.

Spotify aside, the track also made it to the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it spent four weeks at the No. 1 spot. Here’s a list of songs that made it to the list.

Shape of You by Ed Sheeran: 3.334 Billion

Dance Monkey by Tones & I: 2.727 Billion

Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi: 2.597 Billion

Rockstar by Post Malone: 2.576 Billion

Sunflower by Post Malone: 2.510 Billion

Closer by The Chainsmokers & Hasley: 2.436 Billion

Believer by Imagine Dragons: 2.336 Billion

In an interview, The Weeknd divulged why he likes to keep his identity anonymous. “I don’t know. Maybe there is a deeper issue with that, but I feel like with me it’s never been about the artist and the image of the artist. With House of Balloons, nobody knew what I looked like. And I felt like it was the most unbiased reaction you can get to the music because you couldn’t put a face to it. Especially R&B, which is a genre that is heavily influenced by how the artist looks,” says the artiste.

The Canadian rapper further disclosed why a lot of his albums have morbid endings. “It’s crazy, right? I think it’s me removing The Weeknd from Abel. I think a lot of people are like, “Oh, he’s suicidal.” It’s not that. I think it’s me removing The Weeknd from the world, but he still finds his way back. He keeps coming out. Blinding Lights is obviously not going to have him disappear anytime soon.”
