"Reality Can't Change...": 'Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh' Trailer Receives Mixed Fan Reactions
Rajkumar Santoshi Explores An Alternate Reality With ‘Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh’

A clash of Gandhi-Godse ideologies?

The trailer of Rajkumar Santoshi’s Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh was dropped earlier today. The movie, which is slated for a theatre release on January 26, explores an alternate reality where Mahatma Gandhi survives the assassination attempt by Nathuram Godse. The role of Gandhi is portrayed by Deepak Antani, while Chinmay Mandlekar plays Nathuram Godse. The movie marks Santoshi’s return to cinemas after a decade-long sabbatical.

Gandhi Godse... is set against the backdrop of India’s partition, way back in 1947. The trailer shows Gandhi coming face-to-face with a man who fires bullets at him, and reasoning with the killer who is now behind the bars. The scene gets a tad intense, and we’d rather leave the rest for you to explore as you watch it.

On That Note, Here’s How Twitter Has Reacted To The Trailer:

In a recent interview, Santoshi averred how saddening it is to see no-brainer movies fare well at the BO today. “The comedies should be coherent, not gags strung together. I also made a comedy Andaz Apna Apna. It had a clean plot and a coherent narrative. I like to laugh. I’m a big fan of Charlie Chaplin, the Marx Brothers, and Buster Keaton. In Hollywood, they come up with intelligent comedies. In Bollywood, they just lift scenes and jokes from English films. And then to not get hauled up for copying, they put their own ideas into the rip-offs. So the comedies look like a mishmash.”

Vouching for how authenticity is key as far as getting acceptance from the audience goes, he states, “I feel if a filmmaker addresses issues from his heart, no one minds it. In a country where we’ve had a Muslim president and have Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan as icons, Muslims don’t need to feel isolated. Anyone talking about division on a religious basis is creating mischief. And I’m not scared of saying so.”
