Be it a grim film like Omerta or a slice-of-life film like Bareilly Ki Barfi, the actor knows how to keep his audience engaged. But it is not just the actor’s choice of films that has kept his fans going gaga about him. Rao, rightly so, has now joined hands with H&M for their new festive collection under their campaign, Brighter Than Ever. The campaign embodies a message of hope for everyone looking forward to celebrating the festivities again this year after almost two years into the pandemic. Rajkummar Rao is looking dapper as ever in the new festive collection by H&M, and he sat down with team MW to talk all about it.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is all about comfort! Whether it’s for long shoots, events and festivities – I stick to functional and versatile options which are comfortable.
After a year of staying back at home, we are getting to dress up. How are you uping your style game this festive season?
Diwali is such an auspicious time with the on-set of month-long celebrations and occasions. Whether we’re celebrating at home or reuniting with our closest friends and family – this time of the year is all about fun occasionwear from traditional kurtas to indo-western looks paired with printed or bold jackets – expressing our personal style. I usually love to pair jackets with my traditional kurta sets and I love adding warm and autumnal shades to my festive outfits.
What excited you the most about this collaboration with H&M?
H&M is a great brand that we’ve all grown up wearing! It’s a brand known globally for creating great fashion in the most price-conscious and sustainable way. They have categories from simple and timeless t-shirts to relaxed loungewear and smart utility jackets – all of which have a sense of comfort and ease.
This collaboration is very special, and I am really looking forward to the response towards the campaign film – Brighter Than Ever. My character in the film is a party of one that brings out the pure and simple joy of just celebrating after these tumultuous times.
What are your thoughts on your H&M’s new Brighter Than Ever campaign?
At the heart of the inclusive and exhilarating campaign, the film showcases a visual delight of how hope manifests itself in a spectrum of emotions with a shared desire to celebrate the way we used to.
What’s truly special about this campaign for me is how the messaging is so simple yet powerful through a delightful poem that embodies a message of Hope. The campaign brings together a great and diverse set of personalities with a beautiful narrative with 3 different scenarios – A couple, a party of one and a group of friends celebrating together – all brought together by the emotion of hope as we look forward to the festivities this year.
What do you think makes H&M one of the most successful fast-fashion brands in India?
H&M is a great brand that resonates with each one of us – It has something for everyone. From their wide assortment to exciting designer collaborations, they have been known to offer great style at amazing price points. H&M has also been doing some great stuff on the sustainability front – The brand continues to consistently increase the use of more sustainable materials in their product range with the festive collection featuring more sustainable materials such as Recycled Polyester, Tencel, Organic Cotton, Recycled Silk to name a few. Their Garment Collect Initiative allows customers to hand in used and old garments, any pieces of clothing, from any brand and in any condition are accepted. In return, the customer will receive a voucher for each bag brought to encourage circular fashion.
I feel with the pandemic, we’re all looking at ways to adopt more sustainable and mindful choices. It is great to see fashion brands like H&M adopting innovative methods towards a more circular and sustainable fashion future.
