Amongst the many celebrity splits that fans witnessed this year, the most shocking one was Shakira’s break up with Barcelona football player, Gerard Pique. The duo parted ways after sharing their lives together for 11 years and welcoming two baby boys into the world. Three months after the split, the singer has finally addressed how she is dealing with the split.
Talking to a leading magazine, Shakira revealed that it has been a really difficult time for her. “I’ve remained quiet and just tried to process it all. Um, and yeah, it’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still going through it, because I’m in the public eye and because our separation is not like a regular separation. And so it’s been tough not only for me but also for my kids. Incredibly difficult.”
The singer, however, is trying her best to keep her sons – sons Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7, away from the drama. “I have paparazzi camping outside, in front of my house, 24/7. And there’s not a place where I can hide from them with my kids, except for my own house. You know, we can’t take a walk in the park like a regular family or go have an ice cream or do any activity without the paparazzi following us. So it’s hard,” she added.
The duo met on the set of Waka Waka, the official music video for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, written and performed by the Colombian pop star. They started dating a year later but never got married. Last year, when Garry Neville asked Pique about his marriage plans, he replied: “I like it how we are right now. We have two kids, nine and seven, we work good as a couple. We don’t have the need to be married, it’s fine,” added Pique.” Shakira reportedly share similar views at that time.
Post her interview, fans quickly took to Twitter to support their favorite star. “Seriously, disgraceful behavior by Pique. Another entitled cisgender man, who wants to have his fancy football career without making any sacrifices for their relationship, while the woman is left carrying the burden! Glad they split, she deserves so much better,” wrote a user.
