It looks like every new day in Hollywood brings us a new Elvis. After Baz Luhrmann bought back Elvis to life this year with Austin Butler, it is now being reported that Euphoria star Jacob Elordi is set to play the role of the iconic musician in the upcoming Sofia Coppola movie.
Based on Beaulieu Presley’s 1985 bestselling memoir Elvis and Me, Coppola will once again wear the hat of both writer and director for her next featured film titled Priscilla. Playing the lead will be Cailee Spaeny, who was seen in Mare of Easttown, Bad Times at the El Royale. While details are still scarce, the movie is set to begin production in Toronto this fall.
Coppola will once again collaborate with production house A24, who’s recently bought us movies like Everything Everywhere All At Once, Midsommar, and the upcoming Brendan Fraser project, The Whale, which received a generous reception at both the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival.
This is the third time Coppola will be collaborating with A24, after projects like On the Rocks and The Bling Ring. The director rose to fame back in the early 2000s with films like Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette, a cult favorite of today.
The timeline of Elordi working alongside Coppola also works out considering the new season of Euphoria isn’t supposed to go into production for the next year or two. Speaking of which though, spite the second season earning a mixed bag of reactions from fans and critics, Zendaya recently grabbed an Emmy award for her performance, making her the first Black woman to win Emmy for lead actress in a drama series twice
As far as the Coppola film is concerned, here’s how the internet reacted to it.
