Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur’s Jersey has finally hit theatres. Shahid is seen playing Arjun, a failed cricketer, who decides to fulfill his dream of representing Team India for his son. Helmed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Jersey is a remake of the 2019 Telugu film of the same name, featuring Nani. Pankaj Kapur also plays a significant role in the film. Jersey has been receiving positive reviews from the netizens who are impressed with Shahid and Mrunal’s stellar acting skills.
Originally scheduled for a cinema release on August 28, 2020, Jersey was postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Termed as a family entertainer the film has been able to tug at viewers’ heartstrings. Early reactions to the film have begun to flood in on Twitter, and cinephiles have uniformly praised the film and Shahid’s performance.
South Indian superstar Nani, who was the lead in the original Telugu version gave his review of the film. He called it “true good cinema” and wrote, “Watched #Jersey and our @gowtam19 again hit it out of the park. What performances and heart. @shahidkapoor @mrunal0801 #PankajKapoor sir and my boy Ronit This is true good cinema. Congratulations.”
Here’s what the audience had to say about the film:
Aman Gill, the film’s producer, released a statement earlier this month revealing the true reason for the film’s postponement days before its April 14 release date. Jersey was in legal trouble, according to Aman, because Rajneesh Jaiswal complained that his script had been plagiarised.
The Bombay High Court, on the other hand, decided in favour of the film’s producers, and the picture was released on April 22.
