Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys has made a reputation for itself over the course of the last three years. The third season, which premiered a couple of weeks ago has been slowly upping the ante when it comes to violence and bloodshed. However, if Twitter reactions are to be believed, the latest episode might’ve just broken the camel’s back when it comes to shock value.
During an interview with TVLine, showrunner, Eric Kripke hinted that the new episode of The Boys is not for the faint-hearted. He was quoted as saying, “It’s probably one of the more graphic hours of mainstream television that I think anyone will have seen.”
If you really can’t wait to get home and stream the episode, here’s the basic crux of it. Spoiler alert, obviously. The new episode is said to contain the ‘Herogasm’ subplot, which as it sounds is a massive superhero orgy.
This isn’t something Kripke devised on his own though. The Herogasm was a six-issue spin-off miniseries based on The Boys graphic novel, where the Supes team up under the guise of fighting a worldwide threat, but instead settle for an orgy. Yes, we know it doesn’t make sense.
The TV adaptation of the comic book is said to be so graphic that The Boys dropped a trailer for the episode with a content warning. Giving more insight into the episode, Kripke also added, “I think you have to really turn to porn to see things that are more graphic.”
He also added that he was “very surprised” at what the director was able to get away with while shooting the scene, saying, “When we first started prepping it with Nelson [Cragg], the director, and he was showing us what he had planned, I was just like, ‘Wow, are we allowed to show all of that?'”
“They checked with Standards, and there’s like these hilarious rules about how often you can simulate humping and whether or not you can show an erect penis and how long you can show a private part.”
Further adding, “There are all these rules, but we were within the bounds of what the rules were. So the answer was we could show it.”
Jensen Ackles who plays Soldier Boy was reportedly “traumatised” while filming the scene. While Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight mentioned that Herogasm took five days to film with over 12 hours on set each day, calling it “amazing, hilarious, and scarring at the same time”
The sixth episode of the show is already out on the streaming platform. Here’s what everyone is saying about it.
