“Hello there!” force users, we come with good tidings today. Amidst an avalanche of Star Wars related news, it was confirmed that Liam Neeson will be returning to the galaxy far far away as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.
While we were hoping to see glimpses of the 69-year old actor in the ongoing Obi-Wan show with Ewan McGregor, the Taken star will instead be seen in the upcoming animated show called Tales of the Jedi.
The show was announced during the Star Wars Celebration event which took place the last weekend. The anthology series will consist of six episodes, with three of them focused on Count Dooku, played by the late Christopher Lee in the live-action movies. As per the official statement, Neeson is set to reprise his role for one episode, while the actor’s son Micheál Richardson, will be voicing the younger version of the Jedi Master.
In a statement released on StarWars.com, Dave Filoni, who will be overseeing the show along with many other Star Wars projects said, “Qui-Gon is one of the best and, in some ways, most interesting Jedi, because of his philosophy, which is different from the Jedi Council. And where did he learn that, if not from his mentor, Count Dooku?”
Speaking about Tales of Jedi, the other three episodes will feature Ahsoka Tano, who’s also getting her live-action series on Disney Plus and will be played by Rosario Dawson. From the still images that were showcased during the event, we can see that the episodes will focus on her early childhood days and follow her journey as she reunites with her teacher, Anakin Skywalker.
While describing the episodes, Filoni confirmed that the series will be light on dialogue and will focus more on visuals like “tone poems”.
Coming back to the story, Liam Neeson will be returning to the franchise after an absence of more than 20 years. Although, he did have a voice cameo in the climactic scene of The Rise of Skywalker, fans are excited to see the Jedi Master wielding his iconic green lightsaber again for a longer duration.
Tales of the Jedi will premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar but the official release date is awaited.
