Little Details You May Have Missed In The New Game Of Thrones Teaser

Fire? Or Ice?

We were all more than ecstatic when we saw that there’s a new Game of Thrones teaser and finally, a date. April 24th is the day the ultimate war begins. There’s no shame in admitting that you watched the ‘Crypts of Winterfell’ teaser dozens of times.

Earlier this month, HBO released a small 4 second clip in which we see Sansa Stark telling Daenerys, “Winterfell is yours”. As if that wasn’t intriguing enough, HBO treated us with a longer teaser with even more mysterious details. Here, we take a look at some of them:

Jon – Lyanna

For the majority of the teaser, you see all three Stark kids (actually two Starks and one Targaryen) walking down the crypt and passing statues. Jon passes the statue of Lyanna Stark, who unbeknownst to him, is his real mother. “You have to protect him,” she’s heard saying. For those don’t remember, that line is from the season 6 finale, when Lyanna made Ned promise to take care of her son by Rhaegar Targaryen, who turns out to be Jon Snow.

Jon – Ned

Going back to the second episode of the first season, Ned tells Jon, “You are a Stark. You might not have my name, but you have my blood.” Ned also promises Jon to tell him about his mother when he returns. A promise, he could never fulfill.

Sansa – Catelyn

“All this horror that has come to my family. It’s all because I couldn’t love a motherless child,” Catelyn says while Sansa passes by her statue in the crypt. The intriguing part of this scene is the presence of Catelyn’s statue in the crypt itself, because normally, that honour is only saved for those are Starks by birth. Maybe this is just for the teaser or maybe Caetlyn really is in the crypts.

All the three lines spoken in the video, indicate to Jon’s unknown identity of being a Targaryen prince.

An Unpleasant Surprise

The three Starks meet at one point inside the crypts and find an unpleasant sight waiting for them. They see three statues of themselves eerily staring back at them. The creepy part about this is, that the statues are only placed in the crypts if you are dead.

Another little detail is that while the statues of Arya & Sansa seem to look appropriate, Jon’s statue looks like he is much older. This could mean that Jon might live and win the war, but his two sisters will be victims of it.

As the three make the discovery, a cold icy wind blows into the crypt, blowing out all the torches and freezing everything in its path. The cold starts to surround the three, while they take out their weapons, gearing up for whatever is heading their way. This scene is clearly indicating the arrival of the White Walkers. The fact that the three of them see their own statues and that the cold wind starts making its way to them within the crypts itself could indicate that maybe, this is how it all ends. The White Walkers win?
