While many fans seem disappointed, the lineup contains a bunch of hidden gems worth discovering for the uninitiated
It’s finally here – after teasing fans for months, the powers that be at Lollapalooza India have released their long-awaited lineup, driving fans and followers into a frenzy between long-awaited appearances and critical messages.
Featuring over 40 artists at 4 stages over two days, here’s what the festival had to say about their lineup:
“Taking stage are the meteoric music giants Imagine Dragons and indie rock legends and global headliners making their India debut The Strokes who will headline the inaugural festival, while American classic rock geniuses Greta Van Fleet, electronic dance music’s global heavyweight and pioneering dance music producer Diplo, Grammy nominee and revolutionary EDM artist Zhu, Indo-Canadian Punjabi music and rap-star AP Dhillon, Dream-pop artists Cigarettes After Sex, will also perform at Lollapalooza India 2023 in its debut edition for the Asian continent.
And if this wasn’t enough, Lollapalooza India is also set to welcome the freshest of international sounds and home-grown superstar performers including Prateek Kuhad, Divine, Japanese Breakfast, Madeon, Alec Benjamin, Jackson Wang, Chelsea Cutler, The Wombats, Imanbek, Kasablanca, Apashe, Raveena, The Yellow Diary, Bloodywood, Sandunes, Aswekeepsearching, The F16s, Kayan, Tejas, House of Hashbass, Madboy/Mink, T.ill APES, Kumail, Kavya, Mali, Tanmaya Bhatnagar, Easy Wanderlings, Abhi Meer, Bombay Brass, Parimal Shais, Siri, Tracy De Sa, Aadya – for an unforgettable start to 2023 in the Asian subcontinent.”
With so many expectations riding on the lineup, opinions were clearly mixed on the Lollapalooza India Instagram account – where several festival-goers complained about a ‘mid lineup’, while others praised the festival for bringing in certain names. Jackson Wang, Greta Van Fleet, and Japanese Breakfast were particular standouts in this regard.
On our part, while the long wait did result in some inflated expectations – with rumours of Kendrick Lamar, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Arctic Monkeys to name a few – we think that the lineup is pretty respectable, with a host of promising artists finally making their way onto Indian shores.
Tickets also went on sale on BookMyShow, where they were priced at Rs. 8,999, Rs. 19,999, and Rs. 64,999 for Phase 1 General, VIP, and Platinum tickets respectively.
Lollapalooza India will celebrate the next chapter in India’s global festival scene on 28th to 29th January, 2023.
