Heist dramas have always been very popular amongst the audience, and Lupin starring Omar Sy is currently ruling the OTT space. The show that premiered on Friday (March 16) has become Netflix’s “biggest French hit.” Netflix’s CEOs – Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos inform that the show would be viewed by 70 million subscribers within its first 28 days of its release.

” Lupin has already ranked no. 1 in the top 10 in dozens of countries, including Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Sweden and many more,” added the company.

The company continued by saying, “Since the release of the series, the original Maurice Leblanc book has regained interest internationally 114 years after its first release, with it now trending on many marketplaces in France, Italy, Spain, the U.S., the U.K., Korea and others.” The market closes on Tuesday, after which Netflix will unveil its latest quarterly subscriber and financial results. They will also announce the forecasts for the current year and share the earnings updates.

Talking about shooting the show in Paris amid changing Coivd restrictions, Sy earlier told The Hollywood Reporter, “We started before lockdown and we finished in lockdown. It was back and forth. Of course, it was a big change when we came back and had to shoot with all those masks and restrictions. It was new, and weird, for us to work like that.”

He added, And instead of all working together at the same time the restrictions meant different departments couldn’t be in the same room at the same time. So lights would come in first and set up. Then they’d leave and the camera team would come it. It took time to adjust to that, it was weird not being together all the time. But we were so happy to be able to come back.”

Created by George Kay, Lupin is inspired by the popular novels by Maurice Leblanc. Sy essayed the role of Assane Diop, who recreates some of his hero Lupin’s heists. The drama also stars Ludivine Sagnier, Clotilde Hesme, and Nicole Garcia in key roles.
