Over a month ago, Chadwick Boseman passed away at 43 due to complications from colon cancer. Boseman left an impact on Hollywood with Black Panther and now the star’s legacy will be further cemented with the release of his starring role in Netflix film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. It has been announced that the film will premiere on December 18.
We finally have our first look at Boseman and his costars, including Academy Award-winner Viola Davis, in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. The film a historical drama set in 1927 Chicago, in which Davis co-stars as Ma Rainey, a popular Southern singer knowns as the “Mother of Blues,” who’s come to the Second City for a crucial recording session; an endeavor complicated by her ambitious, machinations-making trumpeter, Levee (Boseman), and clashes with her manager and other elements of the white-dominated music industry over the creative direction of the music.
