'Blonde' Teaser: Netflix Film Sees Ana De Armas As Marilyn Monroe
Twitter Is Pleasantly Surprised With Netflix’s Teaser For Marilyn Monroe Biopic ‘Blonde’

Ana de Armas’s transformation makes us believe she was meant to play the legendary icon

The news of Netflix’s Marilyn Monroe movie starring Ana de Armas has been doing the rounds and we’ve been looking forward to it. Now, the first trailer for the biopic is out and we have a few details. The biopic has been titled ‘Blonde,’ and we see Ana de Armas as the legendary actress and her transformation is unbelievable.

The biopic is based on the bestselling novel by Joyce Carol Oates and includes a cast of Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams.

Here’s what the official synopsis reads, “[The film] boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, ‘Blonde’ blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves.”

What’s more interesting here though is the movie has received an NC-17 rating. The movie is directed by Andrew Dominik, whose previous work includes Bradd Pitt starrer Killing Them Softly and The Assassination Of Jesse James.

Speaking about Dominik’s vision for the movie, Ana de Armas recently told Netflix Queue, “Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start — to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens. He wanted the world to experience what it actually felt like to not only be Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane. I found that to be the most daring, unapologetic, and feminist take on her story that I had ever seen.”

Further adding, “We worked on this film for hours, every single day for almost a year, I read Joyce’s novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films — anything I could get my hands on. Every scene is inspired by an existing photograph. We’d pore over every detail in the photo and debate what was happening in it. The first question was always, ‘What was Norma Jeane feeling here?’ We wanted to tell the human side of her story. Fame is what made Marilyn the most visible person in the world, but it also made Norma the most invisible.”

While the brief 1.06-minute long teaser doesn’t reveal much in terms of plot details, it does give small snippets into the life of the iconic actress through various montages. Even before the official synopsis was revealed, the drama’s NC-17 rating is said to have caused a rift between Dominik and Netflix. However, the directed later clarified that he has “nothing but gratitude for Netflix.”

Blonde is set to be released on the streaming service on September 23rd, right around the Oscar season. Here’s what the internet has been saying about the movie:
