*Duel of fates intensifies in the background*
“Hello there!” time to dust off those lightsabers! Disney Plus has officially dropped the trailer of the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and it is everything we were looking for.
The upcoming miniseries, starring Ewan McGregor, is set 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (Episode III). It’ll see the Jedi Master in exile on the planet of Tatooine, to watch a young Luke Skywalker.
Joining Obi-Wan will be his former comrade in arms, Anakin Skywalker reprised by Hayden Christensen, who has now transformed into Darth Vader, after taking a dip in the lava pit. You can expect sparks to fly between the frenemies, as they meet each other again, for what
Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilms, describes it as “the rematch of the century.”
While the 1.46-minute long teaser doesn’t shed any light on important plot details, we did spot some new and old characters taken straight from the prequel trilogies and Star Wars animated shows.
For starters, Joel Edgerton will be reprising his role as Uncle Owen, Luke’s guardian and parental figure. Similarly, the Imperial Inquisitors seen in Star Wars: Rebels animated show and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, will also be making their live-action debut.
Some of the new characters making their debut include force-sensitive Inquisitor Reva, played by Moses Ingram. She can be seen threatening Owen and other residents of Tatooine while on the prowl for any remaining Jedis.
The series will debut exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar on May 25th. It will be directed by Deborah Chow, who has previously worked on Better Call Saul, The Man in the High Castle, American Gods and two episodes of The Mandalorian Season 1.
