Oscars 2018: Why This Is The Year Of The Veterans
Oscars 2018: Why This Is The Year Of The Veterans

Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Frances McDormand…need we say more

What would you be doing in your late 70s? You can seek motivation from these ladies and gents, just in case.

Gary Oldman

The English actor and filmmaker, know for his multi-faceted acting style, is among the frontrunners for the Best Actor Trophy with his titular role as Churchill. He turns 60 this month.

Daniel Day-Lewis

Another Brit on the Best Actor list, the 60-year-old left no stones unturned as a posh yesteryear fashion designer in Phantom Thread.

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg

All of 61 and 71 respectively, the duo joined forces to produce a delightful journey of journalistic excellence. Maybe, our favourite one since Spotlight.

Meryl Streep

She might be 68, but for many of her fans, she’s an ageless, timeless figure of sheer strength. Her role in The Post was worth admiration, as always, but could just lose out to someone even better this year.

Frances McDormand

The 60-year-old American actress pulled off probably the best performance of her career for Three Billboards. She’s already the Best Actress this year for us.

Denzil Washington

Roman J. Israel, Esq. might not have been the best of movies, but the 63-year-old living legend still earned the Best Actor nomination for it. Need we say more.

James Ivory

Approaching 90, Ivory created a masterpiece with his writing for Call Me By Your Name. We hope it gets its due at the gala.

Willem Dafoe

You can love him, you can hate him but you can’t ignore the fact that he’s back. And he’s been nominated for his supporting gig in The Florida Project.

Chris Plummer

Age is actually a number for this veteran who is 88 right now. It’d be an actual fairytale is he wins in the same category for All The Money In The World.

Mary J Blige

Two nominations at the age of 47, Blige is truly an example for all young black women out there.
