Shiv Kumar Subramaniam was last seen in ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar,’ playing Sanya Malhotra’s on-screen father

The world of cinema recently lost a talented actor, Shiv Kumar Subramaniam. The actor passed away on March 11th, and was best known for his roles in films like 2 States and Tu Hai Mera Sunday. The funeral took place on Monday morning, with the cremation happening at Mumbai’s Mokshdham Hindu Shamshanbhoom. Tributes for the actor came in from celebs and industry folk as they remembered the talented man. 

 

Kumar Subramaniam has always been a charmer on the big screen having done roles that have etched a special place in people’s hearts. From the loveable father suffering from dementia in Tu Hai Mera Sunday to the strict one in 2 States, Shiv Kumar Subramaniam did it all to perfection. The versatile actor has also played gritty roles and has won appreciation for those roles as well.

In his memory, we take a look at some roles from the actor’s vast filmography:

2 States

Shiv Kumar Subramaniam played Shiv Swaminathan in 2 States. He played Alia Bhatt’s father in the film, one who was against her marrying a north Indian boy. The camaraderie he shared with both Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor was quite endearing. 

Meenakshi Sundareshwar

The actor essayed the tole of ‘Thatha’ in the Netflix film. Once again donning the role of a father, Kumar Subramaniam impressed everyone with his effortless acting. This film was also his last one.

Rocky Handsome 

The actor took up the role of ACP Rebbelo in the John Abraham starrer. While his role in the film is a small one, he made sure he owns the space in the little time he had. 

Kaminey

Kumar Subramaniam essayed the role of policeman Lobo in Kaminey. The whole chase to retrieve the cocaine is one of the few engaging scenes from the film and the actor pulled it off brilliantly.

Tu Hai Mera Sunday

One of the most loved characters played by Kuma Subramaniam has to be that of Mr Ranganathan, Kavya’s (Shahana Goswami) father in Tu Hai Mera Sunday. He suffers from memory loss and is trying to navigate life in alienation. He is one of the cutest fathers we’ve seen on screen.

Shiv Kumar Subramaniam is survived by his wife, actor Divya Jagdale. He was 62.
