With just weeks away from the new Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse being released in India, Sony has reportedly revealed plans of making an all female spinoff.
According to an exclusive report by Hollywood Reporter, the film will feature a bunch of female superheroes from the Spider-Man universe together in one film. Known for his work on the cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender and Netflix’s Voltron, Joaquim Dos Santos has been tapped to direct the sequel. Wonder Woman 1984 and The Expendables writer, David Callaham, will be penning the script along with Bek Smith, who worked on Marvel’s Captain Marvel and is rewriting a Lego movie. The producer of Spider-Verse as well as Sony’s other live-action movies, Amy Pascal, will be once again taking the producer’s spot for this project as well.
Even though no details have been given, most probably, Gwen Stacy, who is Ghost-Spider in the Spider-Verse film, might be the lead character. But Spider-Woman, Madame Web, Spider-Girl and Silk are also other possible contenders.
Unfortunately, we still aren’t getting a full-fledged live-action film, but that’s alright, as long as we finally get to watch Spider-Woman on the big screen.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Sony could also possibly be working on a film on Marvel’s anti-hero, Morbius the Living Vampire, and that they are planning to cast Jared Leto in the lead role.
