Takeshi’s Castle To Be Rebooted By Prime Video
Here’s Everything We Know About ‘Takeshi’s Castle’ Reboot

Japanese comedian and filmmaker Takeshi Kitano hosted the series, playing the character of an eccentric count.

Remember those days when we used to be glued to the television screen because Takeshi’s Castle was airing? Jaaved Jaaferi’s comic timing and the contestants’ epic fails while crossing levels made our entire day. Amazon Prime Video is bringing a rebooted version of the iconic show back on the OTT platform.

According to reports in Deadline, the new series will premiere in 2023. More than 240 markets including the UK will be able to stream the show. The 75-year-old show is set to return under the working title Fukkatsu! Fuun! Takeshi-jo, or “Return of Takeshi’s Castle.”

The rebooted version promises even more outrageous events and challenges. The new series will be “bigger in scale that would not be possible on terrestrial TV, at substantial costs, we plan to shoulder,” a Tokyo Broadcasting System Television Inc official said during a press conference.

Back in India, the shortened version of Takeshi’s Castle aired on POGO and was narrated by the iconic Jaaved Jaaferi . The actor added his own quirky style to the narration which made the show far more entertaining and comical. Interestingly, several other comedians had tried their hand at taking over the commentary but no one could ever accomplish what Jaaferi added to the show.

Other new projects premiering on Prime Video include the YA romantic horror adventure-comedy series My Undead Yokai Girlfriend, a movie adaptation of Ryota Kosawa’s bestseller Angel Flight, second seasons of The Masked Singer and The Bachelorette Japan. The first season of Bake Off Japan with judges Toshihiko Yoroizuka and Yoshimi Ishikawa, and hosts Maki Sakai and Asuka Kudo is set to release on April 22.
