Which team has the best jersey in Euro 2024?
An unusually epic summer filled with non-stop sports awaits. The T20 World Cup is already underway, the Euro is knocking on the door, and the Paris Olympics are coming closer. It's only fair to say the god of fashion is also smiling, for sporting jerseys have come a long way. There's innovation everywhere, and the horizon for experimentation has grown, and the teams have understood that jerseys have wider cultural significance, extending far beyond the verdant pitches. Nike and Adidas dominate the list, unsurprisingly. But there's some diversity this time, with brands like Puma, Hummel, Macron and Joma also set to make their presence felt. We look at some of the best jerseys we are going to see in Euro 2024.
They are the hosts of the tournament, they had to raise the bar, and boy they did it, with both home and away kit. The home kit is white, of course, but with a slight twist: the colours of the national flag are splashed on the shoulder, giving it a fiery look. But it's the away kit that steals the show, with a hazy purple and pink adorned with spiky patterns.
Austria might not be the team you'd fancy but their kit you certainly would. The familiar red gets an artsy twist with a neatly done outline of villages on the foothills of the mighty Alps. As far as the team is concerned, don't be surprised if they emerge as a giant killer under Ralf Ragnick.
For the home kit, Portugal scrapped the traditional block, instead going for plain red. It's the away kit where the magic happens, an eye-catching ceramic-inspired print, and a sprightly combination of white and blue. If red is for danger, this is for composure - can they not lose it and win the entire thing?
Scotland start their proceedings with a game against Germany. The odds are stacked against them on the pitch, but they have already won the sartorial battle, if there is one. The tartan pattern on the black shirt, with a dash of yellow stripes on the side, makes it really good.
Is it coming home this time? Well, only time will tell, but they have really scored a home run by keeping things strictly simple with a home jersey, a plain white shirt with a navy blue round collar. For away kit they have one for the all-black with a burnished golden crest.
