How much sugar do you consume every day?
How much sugar do you consume every day?

This brilliant documentary points out to all the sugar you didnt know you were consuming

You are a health-conscious man, ever aware of your waistline. So, no soft drinks, candies, ice cream, processed foods, I presume? But what about the crazy amounts of fructose hiding in food items you thought was healthy? The Sugar Film, Damon Gameau’s striking and entertaining experiment, is a revelation. 80% of what we eat today has sugar in it. And on an average, how much of sugar are we consuming?

40 teaspoons. Every day.

Aussie actor Damon Gameau gave up sugar three years ago. He embarks on a unique experiment to document the effects of a high sugar diet on a healthy body, consuming only foods that are commonly perceived as ‘healthy’ for two months. The effects on his body are shocking and highlight some of the issues that plague the sugar industry, and where sugar lurks on our supermarket shelves. “I had no soft drinks, chocolate, ice cream or confectionery,” says Gameau, in an interview to Yahoo. “All the sugars that I was eating were found in perceived healthy foods, such as low-fat yogurts, and muesli bars, and cereals, and fruit juices, sports drinks…” Scary, isn’t it?

After a release in Australia, the documentary – which features appearances by Stephen Fry and Jamie Oliver – is slated to travel across countries and festivals this year.
