Pranav Misra Talks To Us About Men’s Jewellery, The Perfect Suit And More

Pranav Misra, Co-founder, creative and image director at HUEMN talks about his personal style

How do you define fashion? What does it mean to you?

I see fashion as a platform for change. It helps me in expressing myself about society, about inequality, about myself, my fears, my insecurities, my beliefs; it gives me a voice, a purpose to carry on.

What do you consider your personal style statement?

I feel like many personalities are living inside me. I like to bring drastic change to how I look from time to time because after a while, everything starts to bore me, except a good book and true love – and both are rare.

Do you prefer tailored or off the rack? Where do you get your clothes tailored? What brands do you favour when shopping?

I get most of my clothes stitched in my factory; I like the fits that way.

Are you into designer wear? Which designers are your favourites?

I like the work of Rei Kawakubo and Maison Margiela.

What do you think of men’s jewellery? Do you wear any?

I think it looks cool. I only wear it occasionally.

What about watches? Are you a fan of them? Name the brands you like to invest in.

I recently bought a ToyWatch for myself.

How would you describe the perfect suit?

The first thing I notice in a man’s suit is how the sleeves are falling. To get the right armhole fit is the most crucial trick in a suit.

What are the casual and formal items every man must own?

A good cologne, shaving kit, formal shoes, a classic fit suit, a white shirt, hair products depending on the length of your hair and having plenty of socks is a must. Underwear and good jokes are important too.

How do you like to change things up for weddings and formal events?

I end up playing a lot with styling my suits in different ways (although I avoid weddings).

What is your favourite shopping destination in India and abroad?

In India it’s online, and Rinascente in Milan.

What is one piece of style advice you would give all men?

Empower yourself with basic knowledge of styling. Read, study.

What goes into maintaining your hair and beard?

I use hair dust for when my hair is long, gel or cream when its mid-length and a comb or wax when it’s short in length. I hardly use anything for my beard, it’s just regular trimming.
