Volvo’s latest ‘Lounge Concept’ is quite decadent. And quite appealing.

Legroom is a vital component of automotive luxury; we’ll all agree. However, there’s only so much even a Mercedes-Benz S-Class can offer, and even that doesn’t accommodate an ottoman with a three-pointed star embossed on it.

.The solution? Take away the co-driver’s seat. Given that they remain largely vacant in chauffeur driven cars, Volvo has decided to introduce its first of a kind ‘’Lounge Console’. Launched at the Shanghai International Auto Show, the Lounge Console concept dispenses with the co-drivers seat and replaces it with a multi-purpose luxury footrest. The console includes a mirror, a storage compartment and a TV screen that can be flipped over to form a wooden tray that can accommodate a laptop.

The storage compartment exists largely to keep your shoes, while also incorporating a locked storage box. Volvo believe that a view uninterrupted by a seat or a headrest also creates a more spacious environment for the owner.

The Lounge Console still remains a concept with no word from Volvo as to when it will make it to production, or whether it will be seen outside the Chinese luxury car market – something Volvo is desperately trying to draw attention from.
