All The Records Indian Batters Broke in the ODI Series Against England

Records were shattered by Indian batters. 

India crushed England by 142 runs in the third and final ODI to complete a 3-0 clean sweep. They rode on a terrific century from Shubman Gill, and half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer to post a daunting target of 356. In response, England could manage only 214. There was a string of records broken by Indian batters. We look at some of the most notable ones:

Shubman Gill Became Fastest Batsman to Complete 2500 ODI Runs 

 

At the age of 25, no one has scored more runs than Shubman Gill. He became the fastest batter to cross 2500 runs in ODI, breaking Hashim Amla's record of reaching the landmark in 51 innings. Gill only took 50 innings and has 2587 runs in this format. 

 

Shubman Gill Joins the Elite Club of Batsman Who Have Scored a Century in All Three Formats at the Same Ground 

 

Shubman Gill scored his third century overall and first in ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium. He has also scored a century against Australia in the Test, and an unbeaten 126 against New Zealand in the T20I. He joins an exclusive group that includes Babar Azam in Karachi, Faf du Plessis in Johannesburg, David Warner in Adelaide, and Quinton de Kock in Centurion. 

 

Gill Scored 7 ODI Centuries in The Least Number of Innings 

 

Gill reached his seventh ODI century in just 50 innings, surpassing the previous record held by Shikhar Dhawan (54 innings) and Virat Kohli (63 innings). This remarkable feat highlights his exceptional talent and consistency in the 50-over format. 

 

Gill Has the Most International Hundreds Since 2022 

 

Since 2022, Shubman Gill has been the most consistent batter in the world, compiling 13 centuries across formats. Joe Root is the only other player with 13 hundreds. 

 

Shreyas Iyer Breaks Virat Kohli's Records 

 

Shreyas Iyer too achieved a significant milestone in his ODI career by becoming the fastest Indian batter to reach 25 half-centuries. Iyer reached this landmark in just 60 innings, surpassing the previous record held by both Virat Kohli and Navjot Singh Sidhu, who both achieved this feat in 68 innings. In the third ODI, he scored a quickfire 78. 

 

Virat Kohli Scores 4000 Runs Against England 

 

Virat Kohli became the sixth player in the world to score over 4,000 runs against England. The Indian batter averages 41.18 across the format, with eight centuries and 24 half-centuries to his name. Kohli was dismissed for 52 runs off 55 balls by leg-spinner Adil Rashid in the third ODI. Among active players, Australia's Steve Smith leads with 4,815 runs against England.
