With its ubiquitous fourth official board, Hublot has been a big presence at major football tournaments since Euro 2008, including at successive World Cups and Champion’s League matches. As part of its ‘Hublot Loves Football’ campaign for Euro 2016, the luxury watchmaker commissioned Swiss artist and photographer Fred Merz to shoot a series of stunning portraits of football greats, including players, coaches and officials. Here are some of them.
Nicola Rizzoli
Rated as One of the Best Referees in the World
Nicola Rizzoli will undoubtedly be the toast of the referees officiating at Euro 2016. The 44-year-old boyish looking Italian architect has been honoured a record five times as the Serie A Referee of the Year, starting in 2011, and was in 2014 declared the World Referee of the Year.
David Trezeguet
Former French International and European Champion
David Trezeguet, the French striker of Argentinean origin, kicked his way into the history books on the afternoon of July 2, 2000, when he came off the bench to score the ‘golden’ goal against Italy in the Euro finals at the Feijenoord Stadion in Rotterdam, Netherlands. His goal enabled France to become the first and only team ever to win the World Cup and the Euro simultaneously.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
Former German International, CEO of Bayern Munich
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the current CEO of Bayern Munich and former German winger, came to world notice in 1980, when he helped Bayern Munich win the national league. Then, on June 22, at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, he set up a sensational goal for striker Horst Hrubesch that gave Germany a 2-1 victory in the Euro finals against Belgium.
