FC Barcelona striker Lionel Messi returned to Camp Nou for his first match of the season. They took on Villarreal and got a glorious 4-0 win. But Messi made sure to let his ex-teammate Luis Suarez know he scored the goal for him.
As soon as he scored a goal, Messi celebrated with a passionate arm flex and fist pump, similar to how Suarez is known to react after he hits a goal. Gerard Romero from RAC1 also claimed that the Argentine promised to honour his friend if he was on the scoresheet.
This comes days after Messi publicly called out FCB in his farewell post for Suarez. He wrote: “You deserved a send off for what you are: one of the most important players in the club’s history, achieving important things both as a group and individually. And not to get kicked out like they did. But the truth is that at this point nothing surprises me.”

Manager Ronald Koeman reacted to the Messi’s Instagram post and told Metro that it wasn’t his decision to remove Suarez.
“It’s normal for him to be upset about the fact a great friend has left,” Koeman said.
“It seemed like I have been the bad guy in this movie and it’s not like that. It was the decision of the club. I respect Suarez a lot and wish him all the best at Atlético Madrid,” he added.
