25 million plus views on YouTube. That’s a significant number for a game trailer that’s been teased since 2020. This is no ordinary game but one that gaming buffs and Potterheads are eagerly anticipating. Video game data analyst Milie Amand’s tweet has reignited the interest in this game all over again. Hogwarts Legacy is positioned as an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. The game was first introduced at a PlayStation 5 event in September 2020 but will also be available on Xbox and PC.

Hogwarts Legacy was supposed to debut in 2021 but will now only launch in 2022. Avalanche Software and Portkey Games, the developers of the game announced they needed more time to create the best possible experience for the game. While this trending tweet from Milie Amand fuelled speculation that the game might launch around the Game Awards in December 2021, it’s unlikely to arrive before 2022.

Rachel Wakely, General Manager of Warner Bros. spoke to Toy World magazine about two major releases from the Wizarding World IP. She mentioned that the first big release will be
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, that is scheduled for an April 8, 2022 release in the UK. She added that the second major release of 2022 will be for a new console game: Hogwarts Legacy suggesting a release in the second half of 2022.

Most Potterheads have already hit the official Hogwarts Legacy website that builds a lot of expectation for this RPG. What we know is that it’s set in the 1800s and you get to play a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. You have received a late acceptance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and soon discover that you are no ordinary student: you possess an unusual ability to perceive and master Ancient Magic. The game promises a journey filled with familiar and new locations filled with fantastic beasts, spells and potions. You can customise your character, craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade talents, and become the wizard you want to be.

The other interesting development is that the game will feature a transgender-inclusive character creator. A report in Bloomberg suggested that the game will allow players to customise their character’s voice, body type and gender placement for school dormitories. Bloomberg reported that the game’s development team have strived to make the game as inclusive as possible following controversial gender comments made by J.K. Rowling, the creator of the series.

The Hogwarts Legacy website also suggests that Hogwarts Legacy might reveal the darker side of the wizarding world. We could see flashed of Dark Arts, forbidden magic that only powerful evil wizards use. It signs off with a mysterious line “Your legacy is what you make of it”. We hope we can create our legacy sooner than later in 2022.
