Before buyers could even peel the cover off their new iPhones, the newly launched Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are already making the headlines, and not for the right reasons. A few users have reported that the $1000 phones are rattling and making grinding noises while using third-party apps like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok.
The tweet shows the Pro Max’s camera vibrating while using Snapchat, making the photo completely blurry. Turn on the audio and you can quite clearly hear a buzzing and/ or a rattling sound coming off the camera sensors!
The problem seems to be affecting quite a few users, with one Reddit thread reading, “So I’ve been experiencing my camera shaking uncontrollably whenever I open Snapchat or use the camera for Instagram. However, I don’t run into any issues when I use the regular camera app.”
Meanwhile, others reported a similar issue, saying “Picked up my new iPhone 14 pro yesterday and intermittently get OIS camera shake (by shake I mean can see and hear it shaking) in Snapchat.” along with another using reporting the same thing, “My iPhone 14 Pro just arrived and when I opened Snapchat, the camera was shaking a lot and made a pretty strange mechanical noise.”
The issue seems to be affecting only third-party apps yet, prompting that it could be fixed via a quick software update. It is entirely likely that third-party apps weren’t prepared for the new camera enhancements, driving the problem. While we still don’t know what’s causing the issue, it may well be the phone’s optical image stabilization going into a frenzy. However, the issue of a defective camera unit cannot be completely ignored.
As of right now, there seems to be no fix to the problem. We might have to wait and see till third-party apps push a priority update for the phones soon.
