Facebook customises the ‘Like’ button feature

New feature allows you to choose from a range of animated emoticons

Facebook is officially testing a new feature which allows users to be more specific about the degree with which they ‘like’ a particular post. With several requests to customise the ‘like’ feature, most of them asking for the availability of a ‘dislike’ button, Facebook decided to add to the minimal range of options available to its users.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made it clear that a ‘dislike’ button would not be added to each post, stating that he does not intend to make Facebook a place where people can vote a feature up or down. Instead Facebook will add six other options apart from the ‘like’ feature which help express the degree of fondness or the different way in which you acknowledge a post. The options are animated emoticons ranging from ‘love’, ‘haha’, ‘yay’,‘wow’, ‘sad’ and ‘angry’. This helps clear the air about liking a post related to a tragic or enraging occurrence or event.

We studied which comments and reactions are most commonly and universally expressed across Facebook, then worked to design an experience around them that was elegant and fun,” Facebook product manager Chris Cox said in an announcement Thursday.
