Instagram has a new ‘Collab’ feature that will allow its users to collaborate with others on Feed Posts and Reels. It is currently in the works and is being tested in its two key markets, India and the UK.
“With ‘Collab’, you can invite a collaborator to your Feed Post and Reels and so they can share the content with their followers,” the company stated. It believes that collaborating is one of the key parts of how people network within and navigate the platform. The same post will simultaneously appear on two feeds. It is made in the minds of helping users get more reach for their content, whether for Feed posts or Reels.

“Only public accounts who are receiving the test experience can be invited to ‘Collab’/co-author. Once collaboration invite has been accepted by an account, they will be added to the tag screen, and also noted in the header of your post,” the statement said.
Both contributors will be credited as authors of the content posted on The Facebook-owned social media platform. Their followers and other users will see the names of both the creators on the posts shown in their feeds. Both users collaborating would get the feedback and reaction.
This way, both creators can share equal credit instead of them having to have the work posted on only one account or dividing the interaction it gets by posting on both.
In a bid to expand its user base in India, Instagram has been testing a number of new features in the country. For starters, the social media platform first tested the ‘Reels’ feature in India, which turned out to be a massive success for the platform. Another such feature introduced to the users of the nation is live rooms, where up to four users can go live.
The feature is not available to all users yet. To check if the option is available, when uploading a Feed post or create a Reel on Instagram as you normally would, look out for the “Invite Collaborator” under the “Tag People” option towards the end. Instagram notes that users can search for an account and add them as collaborators; however, only public profiles can be tagged for now.
“Once the account has accepted the collaboration invite, they will be added to the tag screen, and also noted in the header of your post,” the company said in a press release.
