Lenovo Unveils New Legion & Yoga Laptops In Its Biggest Laptop Launch Event Of 2022

The new range of laptops promise superior performance, improved battery life and faster graphics

Lenovo has been riding the new resurgence of laptop sales with its clearly defined sub brands. We were at the big Lenovo unveil for 2022 where the brand showcased a slew of Yoga, Legion and IdeaPad Gaming laptops. All laptops are equipped with 12th generation Intel Core processors with faster graphics and improved battery performance.

The context:

There was a point during the last decade when it looked like consumer PCs and laptops were becoming irrelevant. The mobile computing era of the last decade saw smartphone and tablet sales put a squeeze on consumer PC sales. This was a complete contrast to the 2000s. Consumer PC sales soared by 18% between 2002 and 2011 only to hit the roadblock of the 2010s; between 2012 and 2018 the segment registered a decline of -7% (CAGR). The pandemic with its WFH lifestyles changed all that. Between 2019 and 2021, the industry witnessed an unprecedented growth of 18%. Lenovo told us that it expects this growth to stabilise over the next few years, until 2025.

Growth drivers:

According to Lenovo, WFH and hybrid work lifestyles are likely to fuel growth for this segment in the near future. But that’s not the only driver. Lenovo has identified digital Content Creation and consumption and the growing user base of gamers as the other key catalysts for the unparalleled growth of the Consumer PC industry. According to Lenovo, India is home to 1 out of every 6 gamers in the world – 500 million out of a total of 3 billion worldwide.

Gamers unite

The new series of Legion gaming laptops from Lenovo strike the balance between style and raw power. Combined with powerful processors, Lenovo Legion 5i and 5i Pro are battle-ready machines, able to deliver performance with efficient heat dissipation. The independent graphics direct connect technology solves the performance loss problem of mixed mode and enables the comfort of FPS games. The Legion 5 series have a battery capacity of 80Wh and reach up to 80% charging in just 30 minutes with the included charger. The AI engine 2.0 automatically recognises the game, achieves optimized system performance, and increases 20% FPS to deliver seamless gameplay. Our favourite in this line-up is the new Legion Slim 7i, the world’s most mobile 16-inch gaming laptop. This range is pre-loaded with 3 months of Xbox Game Pass.

Work + Play

The new Yoga series combine fine craftsmanship and smart AI features. One of the standout design elements is the new jewel-toned craftsmanship. The new Yoga 9i uses an arc-shaped design to provide comfort during long-term use and movement. OLED screens are gradually becoming the industry standard for premium laptops and the colours are vibrant on this 16:10 OLED screen with a 2.5K resolution.
