While Goa, Kerala and Kashmir are definitely the most talked about tourist spots in the country, there are plenty of jewels located in the east of India too. You can experience history, broaden your horizons, hear some wonderful stories and get to preserve memories of a lifetime at these places.
What are they? Well, here’s our short guide.
Bihar – Bodh Gaya
If you like to experience the roots of Buddhism, this is where you should head to. Gautama Buddha found enlightenment here, and you might find it too – if that is what you are searching for.
West Bengal – Sunderbans
Even though some parts of it are in Bangladesh, this UNESCO World Heritage Site has forests in West Bengal too. It’s also a great place to head to if you are a wildlife enthusiast.
Darjeeling
Famous for its tea, Darjeeling is a scenic place located at 6,700 ft. Do check out the view of Kanchanjunga mountain (which is the third highest peak in the world) while you’re here.
Kolkata
The City Of Joy. Certainly, the most touristy of all metros, Kolkata has great British architecture, lipsmacking food and some extremely creative minds all in one city. Make sure you check out the biryani at Arsalan.
Shantiniketan
If history is your thing, then head to Shantiniketan. If there is a perfect time to visit it then you should definitely visit it during Poush Mela, which typically starts in the third week of December. But you’ll find a lot of peace during your summer vacation too.
