On 19th October, Nikhil “forsaken” Kumawat, a member of OpTic Gaming’s CS:GO team, was caught cheating red handed, during the eXTREMESLAND 2018 Asia Finals, resulting in the disqualification of the team.
The OpTic India team was facing off against Vietnam’s Revolution in the elimination round, when the anti-cheat system detected an unauthorized program running in the background on Kumawat’s system. The admins immediately moved to the station where Kumawat was playing and began investigating his computer. As soon as the admins found the unknown program running in the background, Nikhil successfully deleted the hack. You can view how it exactly went down in the video below.
It was later learnt an aimbot hack was used. An aimbot essentially allows a player to automatically target players from the opposing team, even through walls and other obstacles.
The Indian team was disqualified and the Vietnamese team was given a free pass to the next round, where they will go on to face Malaysia’s FrostFire.
Nikhil is no stranger to cheating, as his Steam account was previously banned for using hacks, which resulted in the Valve Anti-Cheat System (VAC) ban being imposed on his account.
According to dotesports, OpTic international director, Jesal Parekh, gave a statement to HLTV stating, “it is unfortunate that one selfish person is capable of causing this.”
The other members of the team claimed they were unaware of what Nikhil was doing.
Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is a 5v5 format shooter is considered to be one of the biggest games in the world, and has a tremendous fan following here in India. Gaming enthusiast were ecstatic, when the eSports giant, OpTic, announced earlier this year, that they would be having an Indian team for CS:GO.
Enthusiasts were highly disappointed in Nikhil’s actions and were vocal about it on social media. It is indeed an extremely shameful moment for the Indian gaming community, as it might tarnish the community’s name and might have broken down the hard-earned confidence of eSports organisations that were gained over the years.
