Kylian Mbappe has been named the world’s most valuable footballer by CIES Football Observatory, a Swiss firm that uses an econometric approach to assess the value of players. The 23-year-old star also became the first player to breach the €200 million mark, thanks to a lucrative contract extension he signed with PSG.

Mbappe’s current value is estimated at €205 million, and he is set to receive £650,000-a-week at PSG for a period of three years. The French striker has been the vital cog of the Paris-based club, finishing as the leading goal-scorer for them last season.

His nearest rival is Real Madrid’s prodigy Vinicius Jr, who is valued at €185.3 million. It has been a breakthrough season for the Brazillian winger, who formed a formidable striking duo with Karim Benzema and also netted the only goal of the Champions League final.

Erling Haaland, meanwhile, is the most valuable footballer in the Premier League. He was snapped by Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund, where he scored 85 goals in 88 matches. Haaland, who is seen as someone who can fill the gaping void left by Sergio Aguero, will receive a weekly wage of £375,000.

Barcelona’s Pedri and Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham round up the top five of the most valuable players. Pedri’s stock has shot through the roof in the last couple of years, and clubs will have to shell out
€1 billion to trigger his release clause at Barcelona.

Frenkie de Jong and Ferran Torres are two other Barcelona players in the list of ten most valuable players. If Manchester United wants de Jong for the next season, they will have to pay around €112.5 million to the Catalan clubs. However, they may sign him for a much cheaper price, considering the financial turmoil Barcelona is facing.

Ruben Dias is the only defender in the top 10, valued at €109.6 million. Both Manchester City and Barcelona have three players each who have made it to the list:
