With Tokyo Olympics right around the corner, it’s time to know the Indian athletes representing the nation. Since the last couple of years, the number of Indian athletes participating in the Olympic Games has seen a massive rise and that trend is continuing at Tokyo 2020 as well.

More than 70 Indian athletes have already earned a quota for the event in Japan and here are a few that will definitely make us proud.

Kom, who won the bronze at the 2012 Olympics, said the upcoming Tokyo Olympics will be her last appearance at the showpiece event. She sealed her spot in the 51kg category at the Tokyo Olympics at the Asian Olympic qualifying event in Amman, Jordan, in March last year.


CA Bhavani Devi has become the first-ever Indian fencer to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games in March 2021. Devi qualified through the Adjusted Official Ranking (AOR) method. She was ranked 45th and occupied one of the two available slots based on the ranking.

Kumani won the gold medal in the women’s recurve event at the Olympic qualifying Asian Archery event in 2019, which helped her bag the Olympic quota place in the women’s recurve individual category.

Sable had qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in the 3000m steeplechase event with a time of 8.21.37 at the athletics World Championship final in Doha in October 2019. The Olympic cut-off was set at 8.22.00.
