Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015 opened last night with Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla bringing back Bollywood glam from the seventies and eigthties. While personally we feel that the retro overdose should just stop, it always makes for a fun evening.
Titled #JawaniJaneman, the collection showcased a lot of retro cuts and silhouettes, disco colours and OTT bling. The menswear had a smattering of the good ol’ classics and also some what-were-they-thinking. While we loved the sheer shirts and kurtas, the heavily embroidered bandhgalas and might even make peace with the sheer ponchos, the gold sherwanis, sequinned black tights and loud ruffle-collared jackets were huge thumb downs. As was the outrageous Dracula costume definitely created for some Indian wedding. Sometimes, you should just stick to what you do best.
