According to the Johns Hopkins University data, the global death toll due to the novel coronavirus has surpassed 100,000.
There have been over 1.6 million people who have been directly affected by this virus and more than 372,000 are said to have recovered.
While the United States has reported the largest number of confirmed infections (at half a million), Italy has registered the highest number of COVID-19 related fatalities at 18,800.
Indian PM Narendra Modi had announced a 21-day lockdown more than two weeks ago in a bid to stop the spread of the virus. Now, according to media reports, the lockdown may be extended to the 30th of April.
The coronavirus cases in India have mounted to 7529 and there has been 242 fatalities as of publishing this report.
