As the 25th official James Bond film, No Time To Die, readies for release in April this year, long-time official watch partner Omega launched the trusted timepiece of the world’s favourite spy at a gala event in New York last month. Guests were welcomed at The Top of The Standard, the rooftop bar on the city’s Highline, where the new Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition was revealed for the very first time. Actor Daniel Craig, as well as producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli made a special appearance for the occasion.
James Bond has been wearing an OMEGA since GoldenEye in 1995 — the choice of Lindy Hemming, the costume designer who worked on all the Bond films between GoldenEye and Casino Royale. As guests arrived at the event in New York, they were greeted by a full display of the unique Seamaster watches worn by the British spy over the past 25 years.
Raynald Aeschlimann, the President and CEO of OMEGA, welcomed everyone inside and introduced the new watch. He said, “James Bond shares many of the same qualities as OMEGA, from exquisite style to adventurous spirit and exacting precision. We can’t wait for everyone to see the new timepiece he’ll be wearing on screen.” Speaking about his involvement in the design process, Daniel Craig said, “When working with OMEGA, we decided that a lightweight watch would be key for a military man like 007. I also suggested some vintage touches and colours to give the watch a unique edge. The final piece looks incredible.”
The new Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition has been built with military needs in mind and was designed with inputs from Daniel Craig and the 007 producers. OMEGA remained in close contact with the actor throughout the design process, referring to his special James Bond knowledge to understand the sort of features the watch might require.
The 42 mm timepiece has been crafted from titanium, which is used for the case, the mesh bracelet and the innovative adjustable buckle. This material is strong and lightweight, making it perfect for an undercover agent. To decrease the weight, Omega used `tropical’ brown aluminum for the dial and bezel ring. These elements have been given a classic look, thanks to the vintage SuperLumiNova, which fills the diving scale, blackened hands and indexes.
On the caseback are a series of numbers, which follow the format for military issue watches. ‘0552’ is the codenumber specified for Navy personnel, with ‘923 7697’ being the number for a divers’ watch. The letter ‘A’ is a code used to signify a watch with a screw-in crown, while ‘007’ is James Bond’s iconic agent number. Finally, the number ‘62’ is the year of the very first James Bond film. The Naiad lock caseback keeps all of the engravings in correct alignment.
The watch is driven by the OMEGIA CoAxial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806, which has achieved the industry’s highest standards of precision, chronometric performance and magnetic resistance. It will be released in OMEGA boutiques from February. Customers will have a choice between a titanium mesh bracelet, or a striped NATO strap in dark brown, grey and beige, with 007 engraved on the loop. The watches will come in an exclusive brown fabric pouch.
