BMW will offer the sports coupe in a single variant with two transmission options - automatic as standard and a manual gearbox, which may cost a little extra on the CBU car.

Getting directly into the crux of the matter, the new M2 is powered by a 3.0-litre straight six motor used on the M3 and the M4, which churns out 466PS of power and 550Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed torque converter as standard.

In a typical sports coupe fashion, the M2 gets an aggressive styling with sporty elements such as a low-slung diffuser, a rear spoiler, quad-exhaust tips and horizontal kidney grilles.

On the inside, a curved infotainment system dominates the interiors with M-branded graphics.
