A 35-run defeat to Zimbabwe in the qualifiers have pushed West Indies into the choppy water as they seek to secure their place in the ODI World Cup 2023.

The two-time World Cup champion might not even qualify for the marquee event, since they not only need to win the remaining matches but also hope that other results go in their favour.

Ten teams are pooled across two groups, and the top three teams in the points table from each group will qualify for Super Six. West Indies have already qualified for the Super Six, even if they lose their lasy group-stage game.

But things will get tricky for them in Super Six, where points accumulated in the group stage will be taken into consideration.

Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka will carry four points each, while West Indies, even if they beat the Netherlands, will get a maximum of two points.

Thus West Indies not only need to win all three games in Super Six, but also hope that Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka don't win more than one match, which seems unlikely.
