Bazball. Bazzbait. Nighthawker. Ben Stokes' England have now given another word to cricket parlance when they set up a quirky field against Usman Khawaja. It's called Brumbrella.

Brumbrella originally means a large pitch covering that was used at Edgbaston till 2001. It's a portmanteau of Birmingham and Umbrella.

On Sunday, England had tried everything against Khawaja, who had reached his first century in this country a night ago. But nothing worked. Stokes then decided to play with the batter's mind, with a field placement previously unseen in cricket.

On either side of Khawaja's vision, three fielders stood some 15 paces away from him, resembling a human chain. Three occupied the gap between short square leg and short mid-on. The other three are stationed between short point and short mid-off.

Khawaja couldn't understand what was going on. The field setting disoriented his vision, forcing him to do something extraordinary against Ollie Robinson.

Khawaja decided to step out and guide the ball towards deep point, only to miss a fullish delivery from Ollie Robinson that crashed into his stumps. The plan was successful. England managed to eke out a lead.
