Tata Punch appears to lead the pack so far, followed by a bunch of Maruti Suzuki offerings
The year 2024 has been exciting for the Indian car industry, with new launches and updates to iconic models. Notable mentions include the all-new Tata Punch EV, which quickly climbed the sales charts, and the updated Maruti Suzuki Swift, which became the best-selling car in May. The updated Tata Punch has proven popular, selling around 93,847 units since January. Its peak sales came in March with 19,431 units, closely followed by April and May with 19,000 units each.
Despite the SUV trend, the Wagon R remains a favourite among the Indian middle class. Maruti Suzuki sold 88,566 units from January to May 2024, peaking in February with 19,723 units sold.
While awaiting the updated Swift, the Baleno has maintained its status as the go-to premium hatchback. Maruti Suzuki sold 79,626 units in the past five months, with January seeing the highest sales at 19,630 units.
The Dzire compact sedan has been sold around 80,329 times from January to May. An extensive overhaul is expected this year, including design, feature, and possibly mechanical changes.
The Hyundai Creta received significant updates in features and design, including the performance-focused N-Line model. The Creta sold 75,055 units from January to May, peaking in March with 16,458 units following its launch.
