Scooters are having their superbike moment in India, it appears. From BMW launching the most expensive electric scooter in India to Aprilia introducing its flagship maxi scooter, there are now quite a few “high-performance scooter” options to choose from. We list down our favourites.
BMW CE-04 (Rs 14.90 Lakh)
BMW launched the CE 04 electric scooter in India last week at Rs 14.90 lakh, just Rs 1.05 lakh cheaper than the Ducati Monster SP. Available through the CBU route, the electric scooter boasts a sleek, edgy design and features a powerful 8.9kWh battery that offers a 130km range. The motor's peak output is 31kW, hitting a top speed of 120km/h.
Charging takes 4 hours and 20 minutes with a standard charger, or just 1 hour and 40 minutes with an optional quick charger. Key features here include a 10.25-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation, a USB-C charging port, and all-LED lighting. It offers three riding modes: Eco, Rain, and Road, plus a reverse mode. Safety features include dual-channel ABS, with lean-sensitive ABS as an optional upgrade and traction control. Accessories like heated grips, an anti-theft alarm, a centre stand, and a tyre pressure monitoring system are also available.
BMW C 400 GT (Rs 11.25 Lakh)
Yet another BMW scooter on the list, the C 400 GT, is priced at Rs 11.25 lakh. This mid-capacity maxi-scooter features a 350cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, producing 34PS and 35Nm, paired with a CVT unit. Safety is taken care of with dual-channel ABS and Automatic Stability Control (ASC). The C 400 GT comes with a telescopic fork and preload-adjustable dual shocks, along with dual front and single rear disc brakes. It also includes a TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity.
Keeway Sixties 300i (Rs 3.30 Lakh)
Priced at Rs 3.30 lakh, the Keeway Sixties 300i offers a retro design in three colours: Matte White, Matte Light Blue, and Matte Grey. Its vintage look is complemented by modern features such as all-LED lighting and a semi-digital instrument console. The scooter is powered by a 278.2cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, delivering 18.7PS and 23.5Nm. It uses a CVT transmission and includes telescopic front forks, dual rear shock absorbers, and disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS. With a 10-litre fuel tank and 146kg kerb weight, it offers a balanced ride.
TVS X (Rs 2.47 Lakh)
TVS launched, the TVS X, at Rs 2.49 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru) last year. The TVS X is quite interesting owing to its unique design and being the first e-scooter in India with ABS. Deliveries start in May 2024, without the EMPS 2024 subsidy. The TVS X features a sleek, aerodynamic design with a 10.2-inch TFT touchscreen that offers deep customization, navigation, and several widgets. It is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) delivering a peak power of 11kW, with a top speed of 105 km/h and a 0-40 km/h time of 2.6 seconds. The scooter includes a telescopic fork, rear monoshock, and disc brakes with ABS.
Yamaha Aerox 155 (Rs 1.47 Lakh)
The Yamaha Aerox 155 starts at Rs 1.47 lakh, with three variants available. The scooter features a 5.8-inch LCD cluster with Bluetooth connectivity via the Yamaha Y-Connect app, offering various alerts and fuel consumption data. Powered by a 155cc single-cylinder engine borrowed from the R15 and MT-15, it produces 15PS and 13.9Nm. The scooter includes traction control, hazard lights, and an idle-start-stop function for fuel efficiency. Built on an underbone chassis, it uses telescopic front forks and dual rear shocks, with disc and drum brakes equipped with ABS.
Aprilia SXR 160 (Rs 1.44 Lakh)
The Aprilia SXR 160, priced at Rs 1.31 lakh, offers the same performance as the SR 160 in a more practical, maxi-scooter design. It provides ample storage space and a spacious footboard, making it a convenient option for urban commuters.
