Lewis Hamilton staked a stronger claim to this year’s F1 driver’s championship after winning the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona over the weekend. He’s now six points clear at the top after this race.

But not only is the Brit winning on the track, he’s also known for a remarkable set of wheels in his garage. In the past, he has claimed to be a sort of a car connoisseur.

Hamilton admitted that he was ‘particular’ about his purchases, in an interview with Sunday Times.

He has collected more than 15 cars, according to The Express. They are divided between his homes in Monaco and Los Angeles.

He said: “So many sportsmen — sportswomen are generally a smarter species — have squandered their money. I’m very conscious of that.”

“I don’t know anything about wine. I don’t know a huge amount about art. But what I do know is cars, and I’m very particular about them.”

A handful supercars from this collection thus remain ‘special’ for the seven-time F1 champion, by doubling up as cool supercars as well as automotive investments. Here’s a look at the slickest ones:

1. Pagani Zonda 760 LH

The party piece in Hamilton’s car fleet has to be this one-off model. Of the 13 Pagani Zondas produced in the 760-series, Hamilton’s was the second, with the LH moniker representing his initials. It was also the first Zonda to be installed with a six-speed manual transmission, alongside a 7.3-litre M297 engine, producing 760 PS of power and 780 Nm of torque. Visually, it’s famous for the bright purple paint scheme and a selection of exposed carbon fibre elements.

Estimated Price: Rs 16.6 crore

2. 1966 Shelby Cobra 427

This model is among the most extraordinary specimens in Hamilton’s garage. It’s a priceless commodity due to the limited production numbers, but also because of the iconic automotive pioneer Carroll Shelby’s association. Hamilton admitted that it’s not the best car to drive, but the Ford 427 7-litre petrol engine is still known for its rawness and the rattle exhaust sound. The power output is limited to 431PS and peak torque ends at 651 Nm.

Estimated price: Rs 11 crore

3. Ferrari LaFerrari

Another collector item that rises in value as the years go by, this Ferrari tops out at above 350kph. No wonder it was tagged as the maker’s most powerful car ever. It is capable of doing a 0-100kph dash in under three seconds, thanks to a 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 petrol engine with electric motors. Footballers including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Son Heung-min are also proud owners of this scary-fast set of wheels.

Estimated price: Rs 7.4 crore

4. Mercedes-AMG One Hypercar

Apart from the million dollar Mercedes SLS Black, one of the three cars from his F1 team, Hamilton already owned the AMG Hypercar even before its launch. Much like his 2021 W12 F1 race car, the street-legal AMG One features a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 engine, which revs up to 11,000 rpm, with the help of a joint-strike-force of four electric motors that build a package capable of putting down 1,000-plus horses.

Estimated price: Rs 20 crore

5. Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren P1

Designed by the duo of Frank Stephenson and Robert Melville, this gorgeous hybrid sports car is a one-off limited edition unit. Inside the shiny blue exteriors is a 3.8-litre twin-turbo, V8 petrol engine with an electric motor setup. It develops a combined power of 916PS and 978Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Estimated price: Rs 9.9 crore
