How many times have you heard that a car has actual meteorite pieces embedded within it? Well, thanks to BMW, you now have.
BMW Individual, the German carmaker’s customization wing, pulled the drapes off its latest unique creation, the M850i Night Sky Coupe. The release date falls parallel to the Quadrantids, the first major meteor shower of 2019.
Everything abut the car is astronomical. The car has a one-of-a-kind paint job on its exteriors with a hand painted non-metallic black base coat that fuses with a San Marino blue towards the bottom of the car. You find the meteorite particles incorporated on the exterior of the car on the front spoilers, air intakes, mirror caps, brake discs and door sills. On the inside, you see them embedded in the gear lever, iDrive controller and the centre console. All these elements use the Widmanstätten pattern of the meteorite.
Putting the stellar aesthetics of the car aside, the BMW M850i Night Sky Coupe comes with a 530hp V8 4.4-liter twin-turbo engine. The price of the car hasn’t been revealed since this is a one-off customization, probably commissioned by someone with pockets the size of a black hole.
