Porsche Launches Le Mans-Inspired 911 GT3 RS That Can Do 0-100kmph In 3.2 Seconds

Is that a bird? A plane? No, it’s a Porsche!

Porsche has launched its ultimate track tamer, the new 911 GT3 RS globally today at Rs 3.25 Cr (ex-showroom, India). Touted to be the brand’s “most track-focused and aerodynamically optimised” 911 ever, the GT3 RS comes with a host of mechanical and aerodynamic changes, including some technology taken from the brand’s Le Mans winning car. 

First things first though, the GT3 RS carries the same quintessential Porsche design, albeit with a more aggressive look. This is, in part, thanks to the aerodynamic changes done here, like the inclusion of a central radiator, which was first seen in the company’s Le Mans-winning 911 RSR. 

Porsche claims this has made room for “integrated active aerodynamics” on each side of the car, which helps in the form of “continuously adjustable wing elements.” Other additions here include a huge 6-feet swan neck wing at the rear (largest-ever rear wing to be fitted on a production 911), new side blades, wing inlets and a modified rear splitter. 

To help the GT3 RS go even faster, it now comes with the firm’s drag reduction system (DRS). This is the same technology seen on current Formula One cars, which reduces drag, increases straight-line speed and helps with braking. Speaking of which, the RS now gets larger front brakes with 32mm pistons. Overall, the supercar now tips the scale at 1430kg. 

Step inside and you’ll notice the digital instrument cluster and a central touchscreen unit. Since it’s a track-focused car, the 911 gets carbon-fibre bucket seats and steering wheels with a rotary dial, which allows you to switch between three driving modes – road, sport and track. For some extra moolah, Porsche will also sell you a roll cage, as part of its ClubSport pack which also includes a fire extinguisher, six-point seatbelts and a steel rollover bar.

Coming to the heart of the matter, under its hood sits a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-6 engine which makes 532PS of power, mated to a 7-speed PDK transmission. Porsche claims this helps the car in sprinting from 0 to 100kmph in 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 296kmph.
