After a series of teasers, Toyota India has finally launched the Urban Cruiser Taisor today. Based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, this sub-4-meter SUV has been priced at Rs 7.74 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes in five different variants and three engine options.
Starting with the design, the Taisor looks quite different from the Fronx, with standout elements such as the new honeycomb mesh grille that also houses the Toyota logo, along with redesigned LED DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels, connected LED tail lamps at the rear, and more.
Step inside, and you’ll notice an identical-looking upholstery, with the black and maroon colour scheme, seen on the Fronx, also quite prominent here. Additionally, you also get a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, steering-mounted audio controls, a heads-up display, cruise control, and more.
In terms of safety, the Toyota Taisor comes equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and a 360-degree camera. Powering the compact SUV are a choice of three engine options - a 90PS 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol motor, a 100PS 1-liter turbo-petrol engine, and a 77PS 1.2-liter CNG powertrain. While the 5-speed manual transmission remains standard, the 5-speed AMT will be offered for the 1.2-liter model while the 6-speed torque converter will be limited to the turbo-petrol model.
In terms of competition, the Toyota Taisor will compete against the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
