Namit Malhotra also worked on the VFX for Daniel Craig-starrer James Bond movie ‘No Time to Die’

Denis Villeneuve’s science-fiction epic, Dune, ruled the Oscars 2022 . The film bagged multiple trophies including one for Best Visual Effects. One of the teams behind making Dune look so visually appealing was London-based visual effects and animation company DNEG. The CEO of this VFX company is Indian-origin Namit Malhotra, who has worked with several big names in Hollywood.

Malhotra is the son of Bollywood film producer Naresh Malhotra and grandson of cinematographer MN Malhotra. His company, DNEG, is also the force behind titles like The Dark Knight Rises, Sherlock Holmes, Dunkirk, Altered Carbon, Chernobyl, Last Night In Soho, Foundation, and others. 

 

Malhotra’s company, formerly known as Double Negatives, has won Academy Awards for Ex Machina, Interstellar, First Man, Blade Runner 2049 and Tenet. Malhotra acquired the company back in 2014. The team also worked on the VFX for Daniel Craig-starrer James Bond movie No Time to Die. The film was also nominated of an Oscar. 

Earlier, in a conversation with news18, Namit Malhotra said, “It’s a great feeling. It’s the first James Bond movie to get a nomination in this particular category in many, many years. Dune, on the other hand, is the new benchmark of visual effects in storytelling.”

Talking about Dune , the film is based on Frank Herbert’s celebrated sci-fi classic novel of the same name. The film stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem in key roles. The film has greenlit it’s second part as well. 

Apart from Best Visual effects, Dune also won awards for Best Sound (Mac Ruth, Mark Mangini, Theo Green, Doug Hemphill and Ron Bartlett), Best Original Score (Hans Zimmer), Best Editing (Joe Walker), Best Production Design (Patrice Vermette) and Best Cinematography (Greig Fraser).
