After a very busy last year, 2024 appears to be a little muted in terms of releases, ranging from Final Fantasy: Rebirth to the Hades sequel.

FINAL FANTASY 7 REBIRTH

Release date: Feb. 29

A big, big addition to the Final Fantasy series this year comes in the form of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Serving as the standalone second installment of the three-part reimagination by developer Square Enix, this title has been in the works since before the debut of FF7 Remake in 2020. Rebirth follows the adventures of the spiky-haired protagonist, Cloud, as he pursues the antagonist Sephiroth, featuring updated combat mechanics and stunning graphics.

DRAGON’S DOGMA 2

Release date: March 22

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X

After the success of the first game, the action role-playing game Dragon’s Dogma 2 expands upon the desolate open world introduced by developer Capcom in 2012 with the original installment, promising to uphold the combat loops of its predecessor. It remains to be seen if it lives up to the expectations.

BLACK MYTH: WUKONG

Release date: Aug. 20

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X

In development for ages now, this Triple A title draws inspiration from the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West. Considered to be one of the world’s most popular Buddhist folktales, the action RPG Black Myth: Wukong explores the layered mythology of the aforementioned Journey, by assuming the role of the chosen one in a grand and challenging landscape.

ELDEN RING: SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X

While not technically a full-fledged video game, this highly anticipated Elden Ring expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree has been drawing speculations on forums, ahead of its supposed release this year.

HADES 2

Release date: TBD

Platforms: Windows PC

The sequel to the 2020 godlike roguelike, Hades, is set to make its debut in early access in the summer of 2024. Hades 2 will have players “battle beyond the Underworld using dark sorcery to take on the Titan of Time,” according to developer Supergiant Games.
